Why Beneath The Note
I'm a dedicated bassist — formally trained on both electric and upright. But more than that, I don't just teach you to play the notes. I dig beneath them — exploring how a single note can be played in countless ways, pulling from different players and styles to understand why they made the choices they did, how they executed them, and what other possibilities exist beyond what's written.
There's no one path that suits everyone. Every lesson is tailored to your level and the goals you want to achieve.
When you're focused on where your fingers go, you can't always fully hear what you're actually playing. Recording removes that — you listen back with complete focus on the sound, where it sits, and what needs work. I will also record audio resources if needed to give you a reference point to work from through the week.
I utilize notation software as part of the learning process — whether that's creating custom exercises, transcribing what we're working on, explaining a concept visually, or composing something tailored to where you're at. It's another way to make sure you leave every lesson with something clear and useful to work with.
